Last year, “Call Me By Your Name” received huge amount of success. Not only financially, “Call Me By Your Name” also became critical darling. Got Oscar nomination in four categories including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Timothée Chalamet and won Best Adapted Screenplay for James Ivory.
Based on the successful of “Call Me By Your Name”, the studio has already planned to make a sequel with the director Luca Guadagnino returns to direct.
There are still no huge details about the sequel, but Guadagnino seems to have plane regarding the setting place for the sequel. In his recent interview, he explained:
“I’m asking myself if in the new chapter of the life of Elio, Oliver and the Perlman family we should let them pass by Crema or not… but I don’t think so. Let’s give a small scoop: the sequel (but I don’t like to call it a sequel, their story is a ‘cycle’) will take place in Paris. And it begins with Elio crying. With this light shining into his eyes… and we wonder: are we still where we left him (in front of the fireplace)? No: he’s crying because he’s watching the ending of one of the best movies of the eighties, Paul Vecchiali’s masterpiece ‘Once More / Encore’. Absolutely consistent with the character: Elio loves Paul Vecchiali’s cinema… that is melancholic like him.”
So, it looks like we are going to see the Perlman is going to move in Paris or at least spend summer in Paris.
The main players of the “Call Me By Your Name” are onboard including Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet to do the sequel. But seems like Guadagnino has to work very hard to get the writer James Ivory and the author of the book André Aciman to do the sequel. There is also a rumor that Fifty Shades of Grey’s star, Dakota Johnson will be joining the casts as presumably Oliver’s wife. And according to Guadagnino, the sequel of “Call Me By Your Name” is expected to premier in 2020.
