‘Gladiator’ Sequel is Officially in Development

Deadline reports, “Gladiator” sequel is happening. Paramount Picture has announced that Ridley Scott is back to be the director. Peter Craig, the writer of “Top Gun: Maverick” is in charge to be the screenwriter.

According to Deadline, the storyline of “Gladiator 2” will center on Lucius, the son Connie Nielsen’s character Lucilla from Original film. Lucius is the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus, the Roman leader killed by Russell Crowe’s Maximus. Crowe’s character died at the end of the first movie, but the sequel will find Lucius greatly influenced by Maximus.

The original film “Gladiator” released on May 5, 2000, and was a critical and box office sensation. Earned over $400 million worldwide and was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning for Best Picture and Best Actor.

There is no information about plot details such as the age of Lucius. There are also no further information about the casts or premiere date.
