Movie Review “Polar” (2019)

“Polar” is directed by Jonas Åkerlund and was based on the Dark Horse graphic novel “Polar: Came from the Cold” by Victor Santos. The Casts including Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Katherine Winnick, Fei Ren, Ruby O. Fee and Matt Lucas.

From my humble opinion, I think “Polar” reminds me a bit of “John Wick” series, but hey…I can assure you, that they are not the same. “Polar” using heavy guns from start to finish, while in “John Wick”, indeed he uses a gun, but we can also see hands in hands combat. “Polar” received bad reviews from critics, received only 16 on Metascore, which is bad score of course, but I think this time critics got it wrong, I mean, yeah…it’s not perfect, because this film is not a big budget blockbuster, and the story is kind of weak, but the directing and the action and the effect were outstanding, big applause to the director Jonas Åkerlund.

The entire casts also deliver strong performances, especially Vanessa Hudgens, who I think is the best off all, but her character kind of underuse, they could do more with her character.. The lead, Mads Mikkelsen also delivers solid performances, and Katherine Winnick, she is so badass.

Overall, “Polar” may not be the best action film, but it’s worth watching. I myself, really enjoy watching it.
