It looks like we are not going to get Alien sequel anywhere near soon.
The new source reports that the director, Ridley Scoot hasn’t even make a plan for the sequel of “Alien: Covenant”. The reason behind it probably because of “Alien: Covenant” performed not so well at the box office, despite positif reviews that the film received. But the R-rated release couldn’t attract the kind of global audience that would give 20th Century Fox the confidence to keep the series alive.
“Alien: Covenant” opened in May 2017 and grossed only $75 million at the U.S box office with total worldwide around $240 million. “Alien: Covenant” failed to beat “Prometheus”, which grossed over $403 million worldwide.
The leading actress of the film, Katherine Waterston doesn’t even know anything about the sequel. In her recent interview while promoting her latest indie film, “State Like Sleep,” Waterston explained that nobody talked with her about the follow-up movie of “Alien: Covenant”.
“No, basically, I don’t live in Hollywood, and I’m always usually the last person to know even what’s going on in my own career. So, [I’m] probably not the best person to ask. But I did get some sense of where they thought they might like to take it when we were shooting ‘Covenant,’ and it sounded really interesting. I would be absolutely game to do more if they wanted to have me, That’s all I know. I’m sure they’ve changed their minds anyway. And there’s been probably loads of different ideas going around and everything. But just in case I spoil something by talking about it, I wouldn’t dare.”
There were rumors about the sequel of “Alien: Covenant”, which was going with title “Alien: Awakening,” but there’s no production date assigned to the project at this time. Also, now that Waterston doing another franchise, “Fantastic Beasts”, it’s saved to assume that “Alien: Awakening” may not going to arrive any soon.
