The second entry of LEGO series, “The LEGO Movie 2” topped the box office with $34 million debut and beat another newcomers “What Men Want” and “Cold Persuit”.
Warner Bros’s “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” brought only $34 million from opening weekend, which was disappointing since the studio expected to get around $50 million opening. The performance is also well below the $69 million the first film opened with back in February 2014 as well as below the $53 million opening for “The LEGO Batman Movie” in February 2017.
Internationally, “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” opened in 63 markets oversea, and brought an estimated $18.1 million and it’s a little bit below the first film, which brought $18.4 million opening debut.
Paramount’s “What Women Want” came as runner-up on our list with an estimated $19 million debut. The result is quit exceeded the expectation from the studio since the budget itself around $20 million.
Another newcomers from Lionsgate, “Cold Pursuit” starring Liam Nesson landed at the third place in our list with an estimated $10 million. This result is slightly exceeded expectations from studio since the budget itself reportedly around $12 million.
In fourth place, we have “ The Upside”, which continuing its strong week-over-week performance with an estimated $7.2 million this weekend and now stands at $85.8 million domestically. The film has also brought in $8.9 million internationally so far, with the total gross around $94.7 million.
Universal’s “Glass” finished at number five in our list with an estimated $5.8 million and total gross stands at $98.4 million domestically. The film also added $6.6 million internationally this weekend with total around $123 million.
