New film from STXFilm’s “The Upside” beats “Aquaman” at the box office this weekend.
“The Upside” outperforming expectations from studio with an estimated $19.5 million debut, and become number one at the box office. “The Upside” is a remake of French film “The Intouchables” and starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. Although the movie received mixed reviews with 39 % on Rotten Tomatoes and currently sitting at 5.0/10 on IMDb, but audiences seemed to enjoy the film.
WB’s “Aquaman” become the runner-up on fourth week released with an estimated $17.2 million domestically and added $27.9 million internationally. But it seems like fine for Warner Bros. since now “Aquaman” crossed $1 billion at the box office. “Aquaman” will debut in Japan on February 8, 2019.
Newcomer, Sony’s “A Dog’s Way Home” debuted at number three on our list with an estimated $11.3 million. “A Dog’s Way Home” is an adaptation film from W. Bruce Cameron’s novel and starring Bryce Dallas Howard.
Another Sony’s film, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” took the number four on our list. The film, which just won the Golden Globes as the Best Animated Feature continued its excellent box office result with an estimated $9 million this weekend. The film already grossed over $147 million dollar domestically, and added another $9.4 million internationally with total gross over $300 million worldwide.
Finished at the number five on our list, Sony’s “Escape Room”, which was runner-up last week, added $8.9 million this weekend, with total gross $32.4 million under the budget production of $8 million. Another newcomer, Entertainment Studios’s “Replicas”, that was pretty much torn apart by critic didn’t even make it to the top ten. “Replicas” debuted with just $2.5 million this weekend. It seemed like both critics and audiences didn’t seem to care about the fact that Keanu Reeves is a star of the film.
